THREE LOVELY LADIES
MPL-99-001

At dusk on July 15, 1999, the thin crescent moon and the planet Venus shine over the mast and sails of the Star of India, the largest iron-hulled ship afloat, docked near Harbor Drive in San Diego, California. The full disk of the moon is faintly illuminated by earthshine—sunlight reflected back to the moon by the Earth itself.
