WHEN DAY IS DONE
SST-XX-002

As the sun’s setting disk nears the horizon behind the pier at Imperial Beach, California, its light passes through many thick layers of atmosphere.  Not only do these dim the sun’s light and redden its color, but they distort its shape as well, causing it to appear more oval and uneven.  This can change dramatically as the sun descends toward the horizon.
